John A BrownAn endowment has been established in memory of Mr. John A. Brown to be used to fund grants for competition shooting entrance fees. The funds will be managed by the Shelby Community Foundation with advisementfrom the executive board of the Detroit Sportsmen’s Congress, who was instrumental in fostering Mr. Brown’s connection with the SCF to insure that his long term wishes could be carried out.

John Brown spent most of his life promoting the shooting and hunting sports, as chairman, president, mentor, team captain, and board member at the Detroit Sportsmen’s Congress. His love of the shooting sports was passed down to member after member at the DSC.

His support of the shooting sports also extended to the Boy Scouts, supporting their rifle range at the Lost Lake Scout Reservation in Lake, Michigan. Through his generous donations to the Detroit Sportsmen’s Congress, Boy Scouts of America, Michigan United Conservation Clubs, and the National Rifle Association, his love and support of the shooting sports will continue well into the future.

John Brown also served his country in the Marine Corps during World War II and again as an instructor during the Korean War. His donations to the Marine Corps Museum will ensure that his service, the history, and the sacrifices of the Marine Corps will not be forgotten.
