Shelby Week
The week leading up to the annual Shelby Township Art Fair
is designated Shelby Week. The Downtown Development
Authority and area service organizations have planned activities
each day to celebrate our community. Catch some
Shelby spirit! Bring your family, join your neighbors, and be a
part of the fun during the first week in August. Here are some
highlights:
Kid to Kid Sale: Saturday, Aug. 1, noon to 2 PM at the Community Center
(on Van Dyke, one light north of 23 Mile). Kids ages 4-16 can buy, sell, or
trade their used toys or video games. Space rental is $5 per 6 foot table.
Parental supervision is required. Admission is free for shoppers. Call
586.731.0300 for space rental and sale guidelines.
Kid’s Day: Monday, Aug. 3, 6-8 PM at River Bends Park (south side of 22
Mile, between Shelby and Ryan). There will be kid activities, games,
bouncers, entertainment, ice cream, and “live” critters from the Burgess-
Shadbush Nature Center. Admission is free for Shelby and Utica residents
(adult driver’s license required), $5 per car for others. Call 586.731.0300

Taste of Shelby Grub Crawl: Tuesday, Aug. 4, 5:30-9:30 PM. Travel by
bus to area restaurants (Cherry Creek Golf Club, Mr. B’s, The Gathering
Place, Packard Grill, Beef O’Brady’s, Esplendido Mexican Cuisine, and
Hamlin Pub). Tickets are $25 for the first crawler and $15 for the second.
Tickets are for sale at Hellebuyck’s Power Equipment, Nitsche’s Meats and
Deli, and the Shelby Township Parks and Recreation Department. For

Days of 100 Wines and Summer Suds: Wednesday, Aug. 5, 7-9 PM at
Cherry Creek Golf Club. This event is sponsored by the DDA in conjunction
with the Shelby Macomb Kiwanis Daybreakers. Tickets are $25 each
and are available at Nitsche’s Meats and Deli, Vince & Joe’s, and Cherry
Creek. Savor a variety of wines provided by Vince & Joe’s, refreshments,
entertainment, and summer suds at this indoor and outdoor event. Call the
DDA at 248.736.3111 for more information.

Family Outdoor Movie Night: Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Packard Proving Grounds. Gates open at 7 PM; movie (Kung Fu Panda) starts at 9PM. Admission is free. The event is sponsored by Genisys Credit Union and Independent Bank of Shelby. Kids can enjoy a bounce house, face painting, and other activities. Friday’s Refreshment Tent: Friday, Aug. 7, 5-9 PM, at Cherry Creek Golf Club. Free entertainment, free bocce court practice, and the Optimist Club 50-50 putting contest. Saturday’s Refreshment Tent: Saturday, Aug. 8, 10 AM – 9 PM, at Cherry Creek Golf Club. Free morning coffee compliments of Bigby Coffee. 50-50 putting contest from 10AM-5PM. 1st Annual Bocce di Shelby Tournament: Saturday, Aug. 8, 10AM at Cherry Creek Golf Club. Players may register individually or as part of a 4-person team. Register in advance on the DDA website (www.shelbytwpdda.org) or at the gates at 9AM. The tournament is for adults and kids and will last all day, ending at 9 PM. Come to play or cheer on your favorite player.

26th Annual Shelby Township Art Fair: Saturday and Sunday, August 8 and 9, 10AM-5PM, on the township grounds. Juried outdoor art show featuring over 100 artists and artisans from near and far. Free admission, parking, and shuttle service. Musical entertainment at the band shell. Kids Activity Area with crafts, bouncers, and critters from the Nature Center. Take a tour of historical Hope Chapel and Andrews Schoolhouse museum. Food and refreshments available. Hosted by Shelby Parks, Recreation, and Maintenance Department and the Shelby Township Art Fair Committee. Supported by area businesses and service organizations.
