Donors to the Shelby Community Foundation enjoy distinct advantages in pursuing their charitable goals. One advantage is the ability to establish an endowment fund. Endowments are charitable funds, wisely invested, which continue to have an impact long after the original gift is made.  If the gift meets a minimum specified amount, the Foundation can establish any of these types of funds in the donor’s name, or the name of an organization or person of honor.  All grants distributed from that fund – today and in the future – are awarded with the chosen name of the endowment.  The name will always be remembered and linked to good works within the Shelby Township community. A second advantage is the ability to donate to one of the many types of non-endowed funds as described below.

Unrestricted Funds can be used for ever-changing community needs, which often cannot be anticipated at the time a gift is made.

Field of Interest Funds target an important area of community life such as aging, arts, health, youth, etc.  The donor identifies a personal area of interest when making the initial gift; the SCF board then awards grants that make a difference in the area the donor identified.

Designated Funds direct the gift to a specific agency or purpose.  The donor identifies the recipient s/he wishes to benefit; the SCF staff manages the annual distribution of funds.

Advised Funds provide donors with ongoing involvement in the use of a gift.  Working with the SCF staff, the donor identifies ways to use dollars from the fund to address community needs.  The Foundation then manages the distribution of the grant dollars.
